Deacon Sam
was ordained for the Diocese of Metuchen on June 13, 1998. His first assignment was at his home parish of Guardian Angels in Edison NJ. After 18 months at Guardian Angels, Deacon Sam transferred to Holy Spirit Church. He has been blessed with wonderful pastors at the Holy Spirit who have allowed him to fulfill all of his diaconal responsibilities.
At the diocesan level, Sam was the Director, Office of the Diaconate for 7 years, During his tenure as director, he moved the academic formation program to the Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall University. Qualified diaconate candidates can now earn a Master's degree in Theology. He served as a member of the Synod Preparatory Commission and Chaired the Synod Consultation & Planning Committee. He also served as Associate Director of Formation for the Diaconate Class of 2007 and is a member of the Diaconate Personnel Board. He was a member of the Future Staffing of Parishes Commission.
Deacon Sam teaches the "Ritual Practicum" course during the 4th year of the deacon formation program. He also performs the function of Master of Ceremonies for Bishop James Checchio and Bishop Emeritus Paul Bootkoski at various liturgical functions.
Sam holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Seton Hall University. He retired from Merck & Co., Inc, after 31 years of service in the year 2000. He was a director in the Information Technology organization. He resides with his wife of 53 years, Sarah in Edison and has three adult children and five grandchildren, Alyssa, Cara, Michael, Sara, and Alexandra,
